System and Circuit Technology
Since January 2010, Dr. Mario Porrmann is Acting Professor of the research group System and Circuit Technology. The former head of the group, Professor Ulrich Rückert, accepted a professorship at Bielefeld University in the Center of Excellence Cognitive Interaction Technology (CITEC).
With the growing application of Integration Technology in almost all areas of life, Microelectronics has emerged as the key technology of the modern information society. The systematic design of innovative microelectronic systems and their implementation according to specific demands constitute the central research aims of the Department of System and Circuit Technology.
Our common research goal is the systematic design and appropriate use of innovative microelectronic systems. In this field, the activities comprise work at the system and circuit level, both in digital and analog circuit technology. Particular attention is paid to evaluating resource efficiency of massively parallel implementations. Resource efficiency means careful treatment of the basic physical variables: space, time and energy. The applications for the microelectronic systems we develop are real time data servers, massively parallel neurocomputers, decentralised automation systems and autonomous mobile robots.
Our research and technology transfer activities concentrate mainly on
Cognitronics and
Mediatronics. Hand in hand with research goes the theoretical and practical education of students in the management and mastery of the key technology
Microelectronics in concrete applications of Information and Automisation Technology.
