Mediatronics - "Things that communicate and cooperate"
Mediatronics is a new interdisciplinary research area at the Heinz Nixdorf Institute, which is concerned with the situative integration of technical products and services in open systems. In the future these systems will distinguish themselves to an even higher degree by a decentralised organisation of dynamically networked, intelligent components.
Our aim is the development and provision of methods and technologies that allow technical products to communicate and cooperate effectively. We are pursuing new approaches in the use of available computation power and network resources to optimally meet the demands on quality of service and reliability of future communication systems.
Challenge
A substantial basis for the rapid advancement of our Information Society is the provision of efficient and reliable communication systems. An important characteristic of future networks will be the independent adaptation/assimilation of net resources to varying operating conditions. The aim of our research is the development and analysis of intelligent network components, which through self-optimisation adjust their computation and communication capacity to the changing requirements in dynamically networked systems.
