Peter Janacik received his Dr. rer. nat., BSc and nine-semester diploma degrees (roughly equivalent to MSc, minor: media studies) in computer science from the University of Paderborn, Germany, in 2010, 2004 and 2005, respectively. He passed the latter with distinction, received the Award of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, and Mathematics in Recognition of Outstanding Academic Achievements, as well as, the Award of the Paderborn University Society in Recognition of the Outstanding Diploma Thesis. His research interests focus on the design and evaluation of self-organizing communication protocols on logical link control and network levels, especially on the construction and maintenance of structures, like CDS, in large-scale resource-constrained networks, such as wireless sensor networks. Further, his research interests include the MAC layer, data management, real-time communication, and self-organizing protocols for large-scale wired networks. Peter Janacik authored 24 papers published or accepted for publication by the IEEE, ACM, Springer, or in the Dagstuhl proceedings.

As an undergraduate student, Dr. Peter Janacik worked as a developer intern at Sun Microsystems in 2003, was winner of the German National Science and Engineering Fair (Jugend forscht), and received the Award of the President of the Association of German Engineers (VDI) in 2001. During the 1997-98 school year, he lived in New York State as a foreign exchange student attending high school.

Currently, Dr. Peter Janacik is researcher/post-doc in the Design of Distributed Embedded Systems research group at the University of Paderborn and the Heinz Nixdorf Institute.
